It's an hour and a half drive out from the city with no traffic. It's a great teeny little public beach nestled between two private beaches. We love it as a weekday trip. Weekends I hear it gets way too crowded and the traffic is unbearable. Outside of that there is really nothing around there...it is in the midst of a residential area so probably not a good weekend getaway spot. I've never been to Long Beach but let me know how it goes.
